Mutus Meteora

An immersive sonic framework built around the mysterious concept behind this project by Secondary Bounce. It's an art pavilion full of sculptures and spaces that can be explored, playing and discovering within its desaturated aesthetic — an Unreal Engine experience.

The sound challenge was to craft atmospheres that embraced what each space in this pavilion suggested, wrapping the player in that halo of mystery and curiosity without being too on the nose. I played with auditory elements and intermittent melodies to land on a result that's gripping and balanced, never tipping into sensationalism. I used both MIDI and analog instruments, along with Reaper's incredible DAW. The EP is available on every platform.

Atelier

A track designed for the Arcanum Forge project, from studio Secondary Bounce. A rewarding journey through the architectural space, its sculptures, and its atelier, surrounded by vegetation — an Unreal Engine experience.

The sonic aesthetic flows in a very ambiguous dynamic, where melody keeps pushing up against the non-melodic. The rare, subtle sounds of this artistic space match its visual delicacy, landing on an undefined feeling. The single is available on every platform.

Rama

This project started out as a simple idea and ended up as an album. Rama is another work from studio Secondary Bounce. Behind this project's complex artistic concept, what the studio is really trying to show is the interactive application itself — an Unreal Engine experience.

For my part, I tried to accompany the bold visual context subtly, without breaking the experience of such an original project. I combined abstract elements with soft melodic ones, some with an oriental tinge. Minimalism and silence carry the immersive character, and sub-bass appears here and there to sustain the experience. The main tool used was Reaper. The album is available on every platform.

Hipno Andina

A track designed to accompany the journey offered by the interactive application of the Ephemeral Station project, by Of.Studio. The visual context is nested in an Andean valley, aiming to show an innovative concept for generating resources in inhospitable places — an Unreal Engine experience.

I focused on creating an ambiguous atmosphere, with native elements and icaros, paired with an electric spirit, in symbiosis with what the project is trying to communicate. The single is available on every platform.

Wachanga

This single was developed for the Red Pavillion project by Secondary Bounce. A striking piece of architecture, surrounded by a contrast of jungle vegetation, set in a very peculiar creationist context — an Unreal Engine experience.

On this project I took on a very special challenge, choosing to use dynamic percussive elements to generate a sense of spatiality. I leaned into sensationalism, tipping the balance more toward the musical. I feel it's a piece that speaks, that says something. I think the result came out very solid — in fact, it feels like it could score a film.

Biography

Javi James

Bio

Hi! I'm Javi James, an artist and specialist in sound and recording engineering. In 2023 I started venturing into sound design and immersive music development for architectural visualization and conceptual art projects. My first EP was MUTUS METEORA, for the Spanish VR visualization studio "SecondaryBounce". The technique I use consists of taking defined sound elements and exploring new forms, without clear ideas. That deconstruction is what lets me find something I might have been looking for, without knowing it.

In 2026 I started designing immersive audio based on binaural frequencies, specifically meant to stimulate trance, since as a hypnotherapist I work with that.

I like to handle the whole production chain, from composition to mastering, and I do it from the underground, with my humble home studio.

Thesis

Thesis Objective

Although a thesis wasn't academically required given the program's format, the Instituto Mendocino de Audio y Sonido, recognized by the AES, was a great source of knowledge for me. To this day, I apply that knowledge even in my main line of work, which isn't tied to audio but to parapsychology and related therapies. I developed MReal Audio to prove to myself how much I'd understood about the physics of sound, since I love science. While the goal wasn't really to develop a plugin as such, I knew I was building software inside another piece of software (Excel). I made it for educational purposes, not for production use.

About MReal Audio.

What does MReal Audio do? It's a parametric calculator. The program lets the user create a three-dimensional physical space and place sound sources within it. SPL and weighting have been taken into account. It allows selecting specific materials for the floor, wall, and ceiling, which carry the recorded coefficients of real reflection, achieving a faithful RT60. Objects or sound sources also have a vertical parameter, respecting the height we give the stage, which influences the dynamics of the room's reflections. All this data we program in yields real-time parameters like panning, delay, amplitude, attenuation, and sampling. These parameters are used to configure our mix in the DAW, simulating a very real, organic reverberation for any sound we use. The program generates dynamic real-time graphs, visible in the reflections window and the equalizers, both on the main screen. It's not a common spreadsheet. Theoretical foundations from Hass, Sabine, Fletcher, and Munson were used. Free download and use. Completely free of charge.
